Dancing Freedom

Kathleen Charles

This workshop offers a communal dance experience using the principles of expressive arts therapy (i.e. dance/movement therapy) to Black queer community members based in Tio’tia:ke (Montreal).Together we will tap into the healing power of dance/movement to facilitate creative expression, a deeper connection to self and a more intimate connection to community. We will create together a safe enough haven to explore our relationship with movement outside of any particular dance discipline. Using African and afro-diasporic music, the facilitator will propose a warm-up, playful and creative activities to encourage introspective movement and connection with others, followed by a closing circle. We will be reclaiming playfulness and embodied freedom as our birthrights.
